Fractional CFO · Architecture, engineering & design · $2M–$15M
Which of your projects actually made money last year?
Most firm owners can't answer precisely — not from lack of effort, but because the books were never set up to answer it. We help architecture, engineering, and design firms between $2M and $15M see their numbers clearly and build profit that keeps up with growth. Fully virtual, nationwide.
Free · 30 minutes. Bring last year's P&L — you'll leave knowing the three to five changes worth the most money to your firm.
I'm Andrew Escher, CFA. I've spent ten years inside project-based firms — including a landscape architecture firm that doubled while margins improved. The person on your Discovery Call is the person in your books: you work directly with me.
Sound familiar?
Revenue grows, margin doesn't.
Best year ever on the top line, the same number at the bottom. Nobody can say exactly why.
Projects priced by feel.
Estimates come from experience and instinct. Which jobs actually made money is a guess until year-end.
Hours that never get billed.
Revisions, coordination, scope creep. Real work that quietly disappears between the timesheet and the invoice.
Everything runs through you.
Every price, every hire, every escalation. You're the bottleneck, and you know it.
We see this in nearly every firm we start with. It's common, and it's fixable.
What you'll have when we're done
See the firm clearly.
Profitability by project, client, and service line. A monthly close you can rely on, delivered by the 10th. A weekly cash forecast.
Decide with confidence.
A pricing method you can defend, tested against actuals. Budgets and forecasts that get used. Utilization targets that make hiring obvious.
Build something durable.
Receivables converted to cash faster, a stronger reserve, sensible credit, and protection for the people the firm depends on.
The whole arc
We make the numbers clear, and then we help you use them.
What changes when the numbers work
Ten years of this work, inside dozens of growing businesses.
In one year
Same-sized team. We found the unbilled hours and aging receivables quietly draining it.
With healthy margins
A landscape architecture firm grew from breakeven to real profitability while more than doubling revenue.
People, under control
A design studio grew from two people to eleven with the financial systems to support it.

These are engagements I led personally. Before Good Deals, I spent eight years embedded in a bootstrapped company on its way to a nine-figure acquisition. Book a call and you're working directly with me.
What it's like to work with us
You can tell he really cares. Our life is completely different, and our business is completely different — because now there's a plan.
We kept growing, and I had no idea what to do with the money we had. Now I do.
Your first step costs nothing
Diagnose, build, then run it together — three phases, each with a natural stopping point.
Discovery Call — free
Thirty minutes on your P&L and receivables. You leave with the highest-value improvements, whether or not we work together.
Diagnostic & Plan — $5,000
Four weeks in your books, ending in written findings and a roadmap that are yours to keep. If we continue, the full $5,000 is credited toward the build.
Build, then Full Cycle Implementation — $15,000, then $3,000/mo
We put the system in place — clarity, then control, then continuity — and run it together for eighteen months.
What you're probably wondering
How is this different from our CPA?
Your CPA looks backward — taxes and compliance. Your bookkeeper makes sure everything is tagged. We build the strategy in between: managing and reporting on the actual performance of the firm — which work to take, what to charge, when to hire — so it can grow. The roles complement each other, and we make all of them more useful to you.
Do you do bookkeeping or taxes?
Yes — we manage them. The filings and the bookkeeping itself aren't part of our traditional work, but under our standard agreement we own the finance function: we direct the bookkeeper, coordinate the CPA, and steer the tax strategy — so you make the most money, pay no more in taxes than you have to, and get a monthly close you can rely on.
Do you only work with A/E firms?
Firms that sell time for money — design and engineering — are a favorite, and a particular depth. We also work with businesses built to scale fast: e-commerce, SaaS, marketplaces. If revenue is growing faster than profit, it's worth a conversation.
What if our books are behind?
That's normal, and it's fine. Getting them in order is part of the work, not a prerequisite for it.
Who would we actually be working with?
Andrew, directly — and his team. On your side, we work with your people and an extended network of CPAs, bookkeepers, and advisers, brought in depending on where the work needs investment.
What does it cost?
The Discovery Call is free. The Diagnostic & Plan — four weeks in your books, ending in written findings and a roadmap — is $5,000, credited in full toward the build if we continue. The build is $15,000, with ongoing partnership at $3,000 a month across an eighteen-month cycle. For context, a full-time finance leader at this level runs $200K–250K a year. Every stage has a natural stopping point, and nothing continues unless the findings make the case.
